| Bio: | Character: Ginia Solana Description of World: Ginia's world could be considered an alternate universe Earth; the technology and locations are all very much the same but the big difference in the world is the crime rate and how things are controlled. While there's still the police force, government, and even army around, they're only around to pretend to do something; corruption has eaten them through completely. Gangs and other crime groups openly walk and wage war on the streets, their locations obviously staked out (some cities are even completely run by gangs). But at the very top are bounty hunters or freelance mercenaries. For the right price, they'll do whatever you want; serve as a bodyguard, assassinate someone, break into a building and steal something, mow your law, etc. Even the government employs them for all their dirty work. They have no loyalties, even to the person hiring them for a job and come and go where the money is. While there are plenty of people who dislike hunters, blaming them for everything that's wrong, the hunters retort by saying of people didn't keep hiring them for jobs, there wouldn't be as many conflicts. It's a poor argument on both sides, but it's a long-lasting conflict likely to have any conclusion in the near future. As the hunters say, as long as someone needs them for a job, they'll be around. It's very much a rougher kind of world where fights take place on a daily, if not hourly, basis. Of course, most of the time you wouldn't even know it's going on as these fights take place behind closed doors or on the outskirts of town, or maybe it's just better to turn a blind eye to all the bloodshed going on. Highly dystopian, but sometimes little spots of utopia glimmer through before a fight breaks over the patch and it's quietly snuffed out. Personality: Born mute in a world where the weak are preyed upon, Ginia learned quickly how to make herself heard. While writing things down is the easiest for most people, she also communicates through a mixture of sign language and acting things out (or good old pointing and flailing) and is willing to repeat herself again and again to make herself understood. However, she is not deaf and can hear perfectly fine, though pretending to be deaf has worked well to her advantage, allowing her to listen in on conversations between people who don't know any better. While she wouldn't go out and blackmail anyone (unless they hurt her in some way or it was absolutely needed to survive), she's gained valuable information over the years that has helped her survive. She's really an optimist who believes in the best of people and a friendly and loving person at heart, but knowing open friendliness coupled with the inability to scream is how you end up dead in a back alley, Ginia comes off very cold and aloof and maintains a safe distance from people until she's sure they can be trusted. After that, she'll open up a little more and act warmer. Having worked in a bar almost her entire life, she's spent plenty of time observing people and tends to be a good judge of character and makes up her mind about people quickly, though she rarely gives second chances to people who have wronged her in some way. Another affect of having worked in a bar (being able to make some killer cocktails and drinks and having a good tolerance for alcohol aside) is plenty of patience and willingness to listen. Background: Ginia grew up relatively normal or as normal one could be with constant fighting going around. She went to school as a child, but as children teased her for being unable to speak and teachers thought she was too stupid to learn anything, she became home-schooled and learned from her parents and older brother and sister. When she was 16, she began working at the family bar cleaning tables and floors, and by the time she was 18, she'd begun working as a server and eventually a bartender. Her life might have continued on normally if things hadn't changed when she was 20. Against the wishes of her family, her older brother, Avery, became a bounty hunter to protect them and provide them with more money. For awhile it worked and with the extra money he brought in, they were able to take trips to some of the other more peaceful cities and get away from the fighting. When Ginia was 22, everything came crashing down. One night, Avery killed a rival bounty hunter for a job. Shortly after, the dead bounty hunter's friends dropped by the bar, rounded up the family, and beat them to an inch of their lives, before setting the bar on fire and leaving them for dead. Avery and Ginia were the only ones to survive that night, escaping through a broken window and creeping into the back alley behind their bar where they were found by their neighbors and rushed off to the hospital. Ginia spent the next three months in a coma. When she finally woke up, she was told she was the only member of her family who'd survived the attack. She spent several more months in the hospital, receiving treatment for the burns that now cover her upper chest, shoulders, neck, and upper back, and recovering from the loss of her family, going between long periods of depression and near catatonia before eventually stabilizing. After leaving the hospital, she scraped together what money she had left after all the hospital bills and took the bus into the next city with the intent of starting over. Three years later, Ginia survives by taking jobs here and there and saving up money, moving on to the next location when things get too rough or parts of her past begin to catch up. She dreams of opening up her own bar one day, but until that day comes, she carries on as best she can, wary of the company she keeps and never letting anyone get closer to her than needed.
